Summary This study offers a comprehensive comparative analysis between F. M. Dostoevskij’s classic Prestuplenie i nakazanie (PSS 6, 1973) and the black-and-white adaptation Crime and Punishment created by Alain Korkos and David Zane Mairowitz (2008). According to author and artist, the adaptation is meant for recipients acquainted with the novel and first readers of the graphic novel alike. Una de les obres que tradueix és Un llibre trist, un recull factici de tres textos de Lev Tolstoi. L'estudi comparatiu de la traducció i recepció d'aquestes obres a Europa, revela que Oller utilitzà dues fonts intermèdies franceses per traduir un dels textos, La mort d'Ivan Ilitx, i una sola font per als altres dos, Tres morts i La mort al camp de batalla. There is one overriding objective in the literary oeuvre by U. Karatkevitch, namely that the writer tried to enliven and strengthen the weakened sense of national identity among the Belarusians. In the 1950s and the 1960s, it was far from easy in the USSR to encourage and propagate genuine and true Belarusian history, the beauty of the Belarusian language and Belarusian national identity. For his activities in this field, Karatkevitch was often stigmatized and punished. The article presents the hardships of the Belarusian writer, his struggles against censorship as well as unfavourable literary critics.

Aitmatov introduced a biblical motif into his novel – he chose Christ examination by Pilate. The writer extended the meaning of the scene, he altered its essence and “genre,” changing it into philosophical disputation. He also invented the story of Christ sailing with his mother on the Nile and their miraculous rescue by a crocodile. These scenes are presented in such a way that they remind the myth of the birth and death of Christ which allows rating Aitmatov's figure of Christ to the fifth category of literary embodiment of Christ proposed by T. Ziołkowski and called CHRIST AS A MYTH. A figure of Christ in the novel is a symbol of the highest perfection of humanity.

The article discusses a function of Russian culture studies, which is in my opinion, the necessary condition for proper understanding and interpreting literary texts. As we „think about ourselves in the categories of our own culture” (A. Guriewicz), it is crucial for a student to have knowldege on cultural context, in which Russian literature has been growing and functioning over the centuries.
